Specimen Requirements:

• Blood sample, spun down:

  • Collect blood using SST tubes

  • Allow clotting for at least 30 minutes

  • Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 1300xg

  • Aliquot serum into transport tubes

  • Freeze tubes at -20°C immediately after blood is spun down into serum, and store frozen until shipped.

    Note: Do not freeze whole blood. Freeze serum immediately after blood is spun down.

• 2 SST serum tubes:

  • Stable for 5 days at 2 to 8 °C

  • Stable for 24 hours at 20-25 °C

  • Freeze at -20 °C or refrigerate at 2 to 8 °C immediately after blood is spun down*

   • Ship centrifuged serum OVERNIGHT to Protean BioDiagnostics with dry ice.

     • Serum should be frozen immediately and remain frozen until ready to be shipped.

     • Serum aliquots MUST be shipped frozen. Do NOT ship at ambient temperature. (ship on dry ice or using the provided kit. If kit is not available use 3 frozen ice packs in an insulated box).

     • Ship samples from Monday to Wednesday ONLY, using same day or overnight shipping.

     • IMPORTANT NOTE!

       Ensure ALL TUBES are labeled with a minimum of two patient identifiers and Unique Facility ID, and that the duplicate Unique Facility ID Label is adhered to the test requisition form.
